## Snapdragon X2 Elite Laptops Supported in Linux 7.4

Linux 7.4 is set to provide upstream support for three Snapdragon X2 Elite laptops from ASUS, HP, and Lenovo, according to a report by Michael Larabel. The ASUS UX3407NA, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x Gen11, and HP EliteBook X G2q 14 AI are among the early models queued for inclusion in the mainline kernel. Device Tree support for these laptops has been prepared ahead of the Linux 7.4 merge window, which is expected to begin next week. The stable v7.4 kernel is anticipated to be released by the end of December. This development marks a significant step in expanding Linux compatibility with the latest Snapdragon X2 Elite hardware, though full functionality may depend on additional driver and firmware contributions from Qualcomm and laptop manufacturers.

## Missing Features and Ongoing Development

Several features remain unsupported in the current Linux kernel for the three Snapdragon X2 Elite laptops. The Asus Zenbook model lacks HDMI output support, though patches are being developed to address this. Both the Lenovo and another unspecified model are missing camera support, with the Lenovo also lacking an embedded controller (EC) driver. Progress on these issues has remained slow, as noted in [videocardz.com](https://videocardz.com/newz/qualcomm-shuts-door-on-snapdragon-x-dsp-headers-open-sourcing-linux-support-hopes-fade?ref=stirup.si), which states that Canonical still relies on patched packages and a Qualcomm-specific work-in-progress kernel for many Snapdragon X systems. Qualcomm’s refusal to release DSP headers, as mentioned in [videocardz.com](https://videocardz.com/newz/qualcomm-shuts-door-on-snapdragon-x-dsp-headers-open-sourcing-linux-support-hopes-fade?ref=stirup.si), weakens any remaining hope for complete Linux support. [videocardz.com](https://videocardz.com/newz/qualcomm-shuts-door-on-snapdragon-x-dsp-headers-open-sourcing-linux-support-hopes-fade?ref=stirup.si) highlights that these limitations are worth keeping in mind when Snapdragon X2 systems reach the market, as users may face challenges if Windows updates fail to deliver as promised.

## Challenges in Linux Support for Snapdragon X2

Linux support for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite laptops faces significant challenges, despite recent efforts by Qualcomm to expand compatibility. According to Qualcomm, there are “no plans to open source DSP headers as of now,” as noted in a closed GitHub issue, which limits the ability to achieve fully upstream-friendly support. This lack of transparency and access to critical components may explain why TUXEDO canceled its Snapdragon X1 Elite Linux laptop after over 18 months, citing issues such as BIOS updates, fan control, KVM virtualization, USB4, video decoding, and battery life. While Linux can still run on some Snapdragon X2 devices, the platform remains far from the level of support typically expected from mainstream laptops. Qualcomm’s internal team is working to integrate full SoC support into the Linux kernel, but the company’s communication around Linux support has been inconsistent, raising concerns about long-term viability and user experience.
